Sell Your iPhone Online
Online iPhone buyers have become very popular the last couple years. Many of them offer fair prices and excellent service.
The procedure is simple: You click on one of these sellers, select your iPhone model and condition, then select "print my label" or "send me a box." You then mail your iPhone and wait for your payment.
We have tested fifteen of these online sellers and below is a list of the ones that offered the highest prices for our iPhones and actually paid us (Hey, it's the Internet, you never know!).
The Best Online iPhone Buyers - August 2017
(in alphabetical order)
cellbeach.com
gazelle.com
gizmodo.com
glyde.com
itsworthmore.com
nextworth.com
usell.com
We sent iPhones to all of the above and we're paid in a timely manner (some more timely than others). The two fastest payers were cellbeach.com and itsworthmore.com. Both paid us within 24 hours of receiving our iPhones. Both also paid us what we were quoted online....not all did.
Tip: Be wary of online buyers whose price quote has language similar to "will pay you as much as" but don't quote you an exact dollar amount. We have had bad experiences with some of these "as much as" sites. Once they have your iPhone they may contact you with a litany of 'problems' and offer you substantially less than their "as much as" quote. In all cases we gave in and accepted teir lowere than quoted price since we didn't want our phone back. I think they know that's what you'll do...oh, well.
Selling your iPhone to an online buyer is a fairly effortless method. Please check back, we update our best online buyer list every 60 days.
Sell Your iPhone on eBay
If you're a longtime eBay seller then this may be the best way to go.
If you have never sold anything on eBay, here are a few things you need to know:
To begin with, if you are new to eBay you will be charged a fee of 10% of the final selling price including shipping. So if your iPhone sells for $300 eBay will keep $30.
Next you must ship your iPhone so plan on another $12 to $15 for First Class shipping including insurance.
eBay uses PayPal for all their payment processing. In fact, eBay owns PayPal. PayPal will charge you 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction so figure 3%. On a $300 sale the PayPal fee is $9 making your total cost to sell a $300 iPhone on eBay about $54 (30+15+9).
Now here's a kicker: All new eBay/PayPal sellers will have their funds held for 21 days from the date of sale. PayPal does this to be sure you have money available in case your buyer returns your iPhone. There is no leeway on this at all. You will not have access to your sale proceeds for 21 days.
Speaking of returns; the return rate on cell phones is really high on Ebay. In the case of a return dispute, Ebay will always side with the buyer - even if you have described your iPhone perfectly. Weird but true.
Ebay Feedback - this is huge. The feedback system is the backbone of Ebay's seller rankings. As a new seller you will have zero feedback and will be competing with iPhone sellers who have hundreds or even thousands of positive feedbacks. eBay buyers are very cautious when it comes to purchasing from a low/no feedback seller. Plus, as a new seller your listing will be buried deep in all buyer searches. The result of all these factors is that your iPhone will sell for a below average price on Ebay.
Sell Your iPhone on Amazon
Amazon is VERY restrictive on what a new Seller can list. This is especially true regarding cell phones. There is a very high chance that you, as a new seller, will not be allowed to list a newer model iPhone on Amazon.
Assuming you can list your iPhone for sale on Amazon there are a few things you need to know:
Amazon, like Ebay, charges fees. Amazon will charge you 8% to sell your iPhone so that would be $24 on a $300 sale. The good news is Amazon doesn't use PayPal. The bad news is they will hold your funds for four weeks!
Once you have demonstrated you're a reliable, honest seller you will receive your sales proceeds every two weeks. This usually takes 20-40 sales or a couple months minimum.
Cell phone returns are also very high on Amazon. They too will always side with the buyer.
Feedback ratings also play a key role on Amazon. As a new Amazon Seller with zero feedback your profile will identify you as "Just Launched." And just like Ebay buyers, Amazon shoppers will be hesitant to purchase from you.
Sell Your iPhone on Craigslist
Selling on Craigslist is potentially the most profitable because there is no middle man like there is selling through eBay or Amazon.
The bad news is you must do everything yourself and deal directly with a multitude of scam artists and flakey buyers. You've probably sold on Craigslist before so you know what we're talking about. If you haven't, you'll soon find out.
Craigslist has really gone downhill the last few years. Even just five years ago it was a much cleaner marketplace but is now infested with scammers ( who will send you texts and ask you to ship the phone to Nigeria) and low ballers.
If you do decide to sell on Craigslist NEVER give anyone your full name or home address. ALWAYS meet at a Starbucks or public place. If you're a woman always have someone with you. By the way, the number one scammer's target on Craigslist are cell phones. Beware.
So there you have it, your best options for selling your iPhone.
